Couple Relationships
Every relationship takes effort and commitment to make it work,
just like growing a plant, it needs a meticulous heart
and tender hands to help it grow well and blossom.

Sometimes even understanding ourselves and managing our thoughts & emotions could already be challenging, understanding another person’s thoughts & emotions would present another set of challenges. Every relationship takes effort and commitment to make it work, just like growing a plant, it needs a meticulous heart and tender hands to help it grow well and blossom.
There are many reasons for break-down of couple relationships, the most commonly-known one is infidelity. However, what if infidelity is actually a symptom of other problems? Some underlying problems in a relationship breakdown include communication styles & skills, beliefs and values, unhelpful coping strategies, or even rooting from problems arising from one’s childhood. Like how a plant may wither due to not enough or too much water, or infested with pests, it may not always be visible on the outside. It takes the carer to locate the root cause of the problem, work on it and nurture the plant with lots of love again, just like in a relationship. A person who has knowledge and experiences in working with plants might be able to help in this journey, just like a person who has knowledge and experiences in working with people who struggled with life’s problems.
On the other hand, a plant seems to be growing ok, giving it some fertilizers might help to make it grow even stronger and better. Just like a plant, a relationship can become stronger with the help of more understanding of themselves and each other, learning, build and sharpen their communication skills through the counsellor’s facilitation. This helps them to have constructive and deep conversations with each other eventually without the counsellor’s presence. More effective communications helps understanding each other better, each other’s problems better, and connect on a deeper level with each other.
